Who we are

The six founding directors of The Living Project Number One Limited were:

Greg Penoyre
Greg is an architect and co-founder of the well known practice Penoyre & Prasad. The practice has an excellent record of the design of high-quality sustainable buildings and successful planning permissions on sensitive sites. Greg brings his considerable experience and knowledge to the Living Project and will play a key role in its design and realisation.

Kate Miller
An acclaimed poet, former teacher and environmental artist, Kate has founded a succession of projects in the arts and well-being: making special places for community use from derelict factory buildings, a hospital, and in sites of special scientific or historic interest. She has chaired both residents’ associations and allotments’ associations and is particularly interested in recreational gardens for people to share.

Michael Ward

Michael is a specialist in local economic development and regeneration, who has worked in Kent and London, and now chairs a national network of regeneration practitioners, as well as a Fair Trade company. He has extensive experience of local government. He is a Visiting Research Fellow at the Centre for History in Public Health.

Hilary Knight
Hilary works for a housing association in Kent, in the final stage of a career in public and third sectors in the North West, and more recently, London and the South East. She has an MBA and is a member of the Association for Coaching. The Living Project for her offers a transition from the organisational world to a life based in community beyond the immediate family.

Jane Stokes
A published author and keen amateur musician, Jane envisages creating cross-generational music and literacy projects for the Living Project. Now a university lecturer at the University of Greenwich, she has been a senior speech and language therapist in the National Health Service, engaged in community projects in health and social care. She led a local project in South London to maintain a nature reserve, successfully preventing the site from being re-developed.

Humphrey Keenlyside
As company secretary, Humphrey is the Living Project’s in-house lawyer. He is a writer, former lawyer, cricket lover, Rolling Stones aficionado and keen sportsman. He and Jane Stokes together own and manage properties in London.
